Her other notable roles include her starring role as Lorrell Robinson on the Oscar Award-winning Film Dreamgirls (2006) and also for being the character LaVerne Jukebox Ganner on the Starz show Power. Alongside her acting skills, she's famous for the roles she performed in theater. They include Emmie Thibodeaux, who played the Broadway adaptation of Caroline or Change (2005) in which she was awarded the Tony Award Best Features Actress in a Musical was presented as well as Beneatha on the Broadway revival A Raisin in the Sun (2017) for which the Tony Award Best Features Actress in Play nominations were made.
